Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2006, $499,699)
GE Global Research will address face recognition at a distance and the obstacles that currently prevent the successful application of unconstrained face recognition. GE will develop and demonstrate an improved face recognition prototype system that will extract facial images from surveillance video, rotate them using 3-D geometry to a frontal view, and use super-resolution by combining multiple images in an effort to significantly improve face recognition rates.
