Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2005, $4,520,121)
The purpose of this proposal is for Marshall University Forensic Science Center (MUFSC) to provide the following support to the forensic community: (1) prepare CODIS-eligible criminal offender samples for inclusion into SDIS & NDIS databases; (2) provide general forensic casework for FRN identified states; (3) conduct evaluation of expert systems for automated review of convicted offender data in a comparison study; (4) improve conviction rate of sexual assailants by training SANE nurses; (5) sponsor ASCLD 2006 meeting; (6) determine the most viable DNA sources from pre- and post-embalmed bodies; (7) continue scientific research to support current and future development of searchable databases for forensic crime laboratories; (8) and utilize the DNA training laboratory to support the training of 60 scientists through the President's DNA initiative.
