Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2005, $100,000)

In this grant project, Boyer & Associates will subject the Road Sentry' human-portable vehicle immobilizing device to design modifications so as to improve its operational deployment capability. The design modifications are intended to optimize the device's life-cycle costs as well as its weight, shape, size, portability, appearance, ease of setup, ease of stowage, ease of operation, user safety, training, and so forth, to assure that the device is ergonomically and functionally compliant with law enforcement officer deployment requirements. Boyer & Associates will consult with the NIJ National Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Center - West, to identify law enforcement officer deployment requirements. Boyer & Associates will subsequently conduct a reliability assessment and a human factors engineering assessment of the current device's design configuration to determine how the device may be optimally redesigned. The grantee will then undertake the redesign of the Road Sentry device as warranted by the analyses.
