Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2005, $340,505)
Fiore will test commercial motor vehicles to determine their susceptibility to radio frequency (RF) radiation. The information derived from the testing will be useful for determining the RF waveforms that have the greatest potential effectiveness in safely immobilizing motor vehicles. Fiore will conduct laboratory and field testing of motor vehicles that are subjected to modulated narrow band (NB) and ultra-wide-band (UWB) radio frequency (RF) radiation. Fiore will investigate the capability of AM- and pulse-width-modulated waveforms to systematically produce adverse effects on motor vehicle engine functionality. Fiore will also perform the conceptual design of NB and UWB RF sources. The findings that are obtained by Fiore through the conduct of this research project may have a significant impact on the effort to identify optimal RF waveforms that can systematically disrupt motor vehicle engine functioning.
