Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2004, $198,226)
G2 Tactics will develop an innovative surveillance tool to combat the eight (8) billion dollar annual motor vehicle theft crime rate. The imagery analysis system reads license plates of passing vehicles and compares them to the current NCIC record of stolen vehicles and to locally entered license plates. The applicant proposes to integrate off-the-shelf license plate reading equipment with data mining software and spatial analysis tools to create a portable system to detect automobile thieves and to provide geo-spatial analysis of stolen vehicle movements. The system will be tested for its effectiveness against professional and non-professional motor vehicle thieves through statistical analysis, simulation, and field-testing.
