Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2003, $150,000)
This cooperative agreement funds Wisner Classic Mfg. to quadruple the x-ray image size available to bomb technicians by developing a 16x20 in. x-ray cassette, which will use Polaroid Instant film. The existing 8 X 10 in. cassettes used by bomb squads require multiple exposures to provide a full view of items such as small suitcases and briefcases. Most PC-based x-ray diagnostic systems have the same limited image size. While Golden Engineering Inc. has developed a PC-based system providing a larger (14 X 16 in.) image size, that system requires three times as long to develop an image (3 minutes) as the proposed Wisner system and at around $25,000 it also costs about five times as much. This effort has national impact and is endorsed by the National Bomb Squad Commander's Advisory Board.
