National Institute of Justice Continuation Awards

This pilot project in Arlington County, VA will demonstrate improved interoperability for Emergency Management Service (EMS) by providing EMS personnel with wireless data collection tools that will in turn be integrated into the Capital Wireless Integrated Network (CapWIN). These tools will collect patient information during ambulance runs, automatically populate dispatch data from the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) into the EMS system and provide vehicle location using GPS. This information in turn will be shared with other appropriate area agencies, hospitals, and transportation departments through CapWIN. This capability will significantly augment interoperability within the EMS community and will have positive impact on daily use as well as large-scale, critical incidents, including those that occur in school settings.
