Sex Offender Gaps

Offender Was Covered by State Law, but a Specimen Was Not Collected

Identified convicted persons who are required to submit a specimen for DNA analysis, but whose DNA profile is missing from the database, will be a challenge only in collecting the specimen. The actual collection process may be challenging and cumbersome, but law enforcement's authority under state sex offender registration statutes should be used in these cases, and collection of a sample should be incorporated into the registration process.

Please note: It is imperative to determine if there is ongoing authority to collect the specimen prior to any collection efforts.
