Introduction

DNA has revolutionized the fields of forensic science and criminal investigation in an unprecedented manner. Unlike fingerprint evidence, with which it has been compared, the potential for collecting DNA evidence at a crime scene has firmly established its utility in the investigation of a crime. DNA can assist the prosecutor and investigator in ways beyond merely identifying a perpetrator. DNA can confirm a victim or witness' testimony, place an individual at a crime scene, and overcome the defendant's account of the incident. In many respects, the use of DNA is only limited by the imagination.

In this topic you will learn about forensic and unusual uses of DNA and DNA profiling.
