Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2019, $594,405)
The North Carolina State Crime Laboratory (NCSCL) consists of three regional facilities; Raleigh, Triad Regional and Western Regional Laboratories. To continue to efficiently and effectively provide quality chemical analysis, two Drug Chemistry sections are seeking funds to replace three of the oldest GC-MS instruments. These instruments are unable to be upgraded to current operating system parameters and software platforms. Upgrading to newer instrumentation will allow analysts to spend more time on case completion while providing quality results to our customers. The Toxicology section is requesting funds to retrofit two existing systems with an improved detection system. The laboratory is also requesting funding to send eight drug chemists to professional development.
