PROJECT SUMMARY FOR 2001-IJ-CX-0027
The Project entitled, "Trafficking in Persons in the U.S." involves regional studies of key trafficking hot spots, Chicago and southwest Florida, and one emerging point of entry, Washington, D.C. For each region, the grantee will identify two to six trafficking cases clusted there that meet the Federal definition of "severe forms of trafficking." Data collected will put these cases in context in terms of local, national and international economics; the economics of specific industries; and the law. The goal is to offer suggestions for a more organized and coherent response to trafficking in humans. Specific aims are to 1) show ways to improve identification, investigation, prosection, and convection of traffickers; 2) give good and bad examples of how victims have been approached and processed and ultimately had their situations resolved; 3) determine victims'needs and ways to meet them; and 4) find ways to bring together and improve the interaction of entities involved in these cases.
The total estimated budget is $199,395. Funds for this project are provided by NIJ. The duration of the project is 24 months.
