Solving Cold Cases with DNA Funding Program

Several law enforcement agencies, prosecutors' offices, and crime labs across the country have established innovative programs to review old cases. Often called "cold case units," these programs have enabled criminal justice officials to solve cases that have languished for years without suspects. Most frequently, DNA evidence has been the linchpin in solving these cases.

Prosecuting Cold Cases using DNA and Other Forensic Technologies, FY 2019

Closing Date
The goals of the Prosecuting Cold Cases using Forensic Technology solicitation are to: 1. Prosecute violent crime cold cases where a suspect has been identified and 2. Decrease the number of unresolved violent crime cold cases. Through this program, NIJ will provide grant funding to support the prosecution of "violent crime cold cases" and the necessary processes, including forensic analyses, leading to cold case resolutions.

Research and Evaluation on the Administration of Justice, FY 2019

NIJ seeks applications for funding investigator-initiated, interdisciplinary research and evaluation projects related to the administration of justice in three areas: (1) eyewitness evidence; (2) police deflection strategies; and (3) forensic science testimony.
