Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2019, $572,387)
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) DNA Laboratory is requesting funds to handle, screen, and/or analyze backlogged forensic and database samples. Overtime, continuing salary and benefit support of grant funded personnel, and the outsourcing of backlogged cases to a qualifying fee-for-service laboratory will be used to accomplish this task. Funding on this award will allow us to analyze approximately 320 cases using overtime and grant funded analysts and 2000 database samples using grant funded overtime. Additionally, we anticipate that we will outsource approximately 80 cases using these funds. Funds are also requested for continuing education and an external QAS audit.
