Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2019, $250,000)

The York County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) will implement the FY 2019 CEBR grant to increase the capacity of the laboratory to process more DNA samples, thereby helping to reduce the number of forensic DNA samples awaiting analysis and prevent a backlog of forensic DNA samples. The YCSO will upgrade a quantitation instrument as well as data collection and data analysis software. The laboratory will contract a third party vendor to conduct validation of the quantitation instrument and the upgraded software in conjunction with the current laboratory workflow. The YCSO will also purchase a forensic light source that will allow analysts to better screen evidence for stains requiring DNA analysis and to upgrade the current reagent and evidence storage capabilities through the purchase of refrigerators and a temperature monitoring system.
