Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2019, $130,000)

The Wyoming Office of the Attorney General, Wyoming State Crime Laboratory (WSCL) is the only full-service forensic laboratory in the State. The WSCL has identified the following goals for this program: maintaining a fully accredited laboratory, expanding scope of accreditation to include drug toxicology and blood pattern interpretation, expanding services for drug toxicology, and addressing the increased number of submissions for analysis with decreased turnaround time for analysis and reducing drug evidence with an on-site incinerator. Funds would be used to support overtime for case analysis in several disciplines, validating methods in toxicology and targeting opiates for confirmatory analysis, purchasing consumable supplies for toxicology, cross-training analysts, purchasing proficiency tests, continuing ANAB accreditation and expanding the scope, and decreasing the amount of items in drug evidence storage. Completing this project will help Wyoming increase the services provided in forensic science and evidence disposal.
