Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2018, $510,000)
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD), PD Biology/DNA Detail expects to process at least 130 cases in-house with federal-funded overtime. By utilizing overtime, processing cases in-house will reduce the overall backlog of DNA cases at the LVMPD, with the goal of reducing case turnaround time by 30 days.
Increasing the capacity and throughput of the Biology/DNA Detail by purchasing robots to integrate automated technology will increase efficiency and replace manual laboratory processing. Upgrading current equipment and software in the Biology/DNA Detail will allow the Detail to stay on the cutting edge of technology. These instrument purchases will allow the Biology/DNA Detail to increase the capacity and processing throughput by an average of five samples per forensic scientist per month. NCA/NCF
