Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2018, $398,322)

The State of Tennessee proposes to use FY 2018 Coverdell Formula funds to support the following programs:

1) Tennessee Bureau of Investigation - Forensic Laboratory Equipment Upgrades and Training: The TBI proposes to use funding to purchase hardware and software for a Gas Chromatograph/Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer w/auto sampler, sampler towers, and software; and,
2) Tennessee Department of Health - Office of the Chief State Medical Examiner – Death Scene Investigation Equipment:
TDOH-OCSME proposes to use funding to digitize death investigation administration scene photography and tactical vest for on-site of an investigation.

The State of Tennessee proposes to use FY 2018 Coverdell Formula funds to support the following programs for the Opioid Portion of Funding:
1) Tennessee Department of Health - Office of the Chief State Medical Examiner
TDOH-OCSME proposes to use funding for toxicology tests based on the current percentage of autopsies each of the four forensic centers are reimbursed for toxicology by the state. Shelby County receives 24%, Davidson County/Forensic Medical receives 43.5%, Knox County receives 19% and ETSU receives 13.4%.
