Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2018, $271,960)

The objective of this grant is to provide support in procuring the following forensic equipment, supplies, computerization and accreditation services: Agilent gas chromatograph mass spectrometer (GC-MS) instrumentation, GCMS forensic supplies, oil-less pump, Clark's Analysis of Drugs and Poison 4th edition, dual monitor workstations, a computer workstation, proficiency testing, ISO/IEC 170125 accreditation services.

The GC-MS instrumentation, GC-MS forensic supplies, oil less pump for the Agilent 7890 GC/5975 mass spectrometer, Clark's Analysis of Drugs and Poison 4th edition will improve the quality and timeliness of forensic science services in the identification and analysis of controlled substances such as methamphetamine, cocaine, and synthetic opioid.

The dual monitor workstations and one workstation will replace the aged workstations in the Photo Lab Unit, Fingerprint Unit, Drug Analysis Unit, and the Serology Unit to improve the processing of forensic evidence in those units.

The proficiency testing will achieve proficiency tested personnel in preparation for accreditation. The ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation services will facilitate accreditation of Guam's forensic laboratory.

The anticipated outcome of this program is the increased forensic quality of processed case evidence; to maintain reduction of backlog forensic drug cases processed; and accreditation of the laboratory.
