The City of Austin's Crime Lab's DNA Section was closed in 2015 after an internal audit. Issues and questions ranged in scope from mixture interpretation and potential crossover contamination, to the use of accepted scientific practices and proper analyst training. In light of identified lab issues, Austin's project objectives are to review postconviction cases and identify and locate biological evidence, and to perform DNA analysis.
