Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2016, $172,359)

The State of Tennessee proposes to use FFY 2016 Coverdell Formula funds to support the following programs:

1) Tennessee Bureau of Investigation - Forensic Laboratory Equipment Upgrades and Training:

The TBI proposes to use funding to purchase and install hardware and support training of personnel at laboratories including the purchase of one GAS CHROMATOGRAPH / MASS SPECTROMETER as well as funding to send two TBI Firearm and Toolmark Identification Unit (FTIU) Forensic Scientists to attend the AFTE 2017 Annual Training Conference in Denver, Colorado, and one TBI Microanalysis Forensic Scientist to attend the 2017 MAFS & SAFS Joint Conference tentatively scheduled to be held in Cincinnati, Ohio. 3939

2) Tennessee Department of Health - Office of the Chief Medical Examiner - Death Scene Investigation Equipment:

Funding the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) will death investigation scene equipment kits to County Medical Examiners and their designated Medicolegal Death Scene Investigators.

The competitive portion of the application requests support for the development of enhancements to the Tennessee Controlled Substance Monitoring Database (TN-CSMD) and the purchase and distribution of (23) Automatic Pill Counters.
