Dr. David Kirk is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology and a Faculty Research Associate of the Population Research Center at The University of Texas at Austin. Kirk was formerly Assistant Professor in the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Maryland (from 2006-2009). Prior to earning his doctorate at the University of Chicago, Kirk worked at the Urban Institute. Kirk's current research explores the influence of social context and neighborhood change on behavior. One ongoing project examines the structural and cultural predictors of neighborhood violence. Kirk's recent research has appeared in American Journal of Sociology, American Sociological Review, Demography, and Criminology.
