The Technology Assessment Program (TAP) provides the information needed by police departments to decide what high tech equipment should be purchased.
Abstract
TAP recently tested body-worn FM transmitters which are used during surveillance operations to transmit conversations between suspects and law enforcement officers to nearby FM receivers. The tests showed that FM transmitters allow data to be gathered and alert law enforcement personnel when an undercover officer is in danger. TAP also plans to test rechargeable replacement batteries for hand-held receivers.
