Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2012, $761,111)
The 2012 NIJ Postconviction DNA Testing Assistance grant will enable the North Carolina Innocence Inquiry Commission (Commission) to investigate, and where appropriate, subject qualifying innocence claims to DNA testing. The grant will illustrate how the Commission will significantly increase the number of reviews conducted in postconviction cases where DNA analysis could prove actual innocence of the person convicted. This is in keeping with the Commission's core mission, which is to fully and fairly investigate and evaluate all credible claims of factual innocence made by individuals convicted of felonies in North Carolina.
